Hi all...!
This was my second trek to kodachadri.. i had been to kodachadri on 1st of jan 2009. when i had been there for the first time, i had decided to trek another time in the rains, i told my plans to amar, he also agreed. Phani also told he’ll join. But due to his health problems, he couldnt join us L . at the last moment natraj joined us. So we 3 people booked tickets to shimoga for 17th night. Purchased some food items like bread, biscuits, soup powder, chocolates and packed our back packs.

We got into the bus at exactly 10:15. bus started at 11:00. we arrived at shimoga at 5:45. there was a bus going through karre ghat/kodachadri cross at 6:00 (bus to bhatkal) . we reached karre ghat at 9:50. took some snaps, started our trek at exact 10:00.

Initial part of the trek is through a jeep track which goes till hotel santosh a mallu tea shop where we can get idli, puttu, channa, butter milk, tea and toffies.
We reached santosh hotel by 11:00. had puttus and butter milk. Took rest for some time and left at 11:30.
When we were just leaving two malayali guys came to hotel santosh, they came with slippers and a water bottle. I liked their courage. One person was vivek and another one was shenil.
After 15 mins of trek thorugh deep forests they also joined us, we walked together.
Amar was very scared of leaches as they were getting on our legs evey moment. So he pushed us to walk very quickly. We crossed the forest in just half an hour ( it takes around 90 mins to cross the forest).


As soon as the forest patch ended, it started to rain, after 10 mins it stopped J
We walked in the grass land for 45 mins and enterded another patch of forest.
Came out of it after 15 mins. We were standing in front of last streach to go to PWD guest house. Took some 15 mins of break and started again. In just 20 mins we were in front of PWD bunglow. We were there at 1:35 J

Everybody got minimum of 5 leach bytes but i got only one on my neck J
They decided to go to top of kodachadri(sarvagna peeta). I had no mood to go as i had been there once. They came back at 3:00. after keeping bags in PWD bunglow me and amar went for taking photographs. We came back by 6:00. tooks some snaps of sunset in front of guest house. Went to ask the room from nagesh bhat. He agreed to give us room and lunch at a cost 60/- per head. We stayed there for the night. Dinner was awesome.

We got up at 5:30 in the morning. Left that place at 6:30 and walked through jeep track to reach kattina hole the first village on the way to nittur in the jeep track.

Took some snaps on te way and reached kattina hole at 8:45. damn there was a bus at 8:30 to nittur, we missed that bus, so took a jeep to nittu. He charged 200 for us.
We reached nittur by 9:00.
we got into hanuman bus and eached kollur by 10:00. went to vivek’s room and freshed ourselves, amar and natti went to temple. And at 10:30 we got into byndoor bus. From byndoor we went in two tempos from byndoor to bhatkal and bhatkal to murdeshwar. Reached murdeshwar at 2:00.


went to temple, took some snaps in beach, left murfeshwar at 3:30. we got a bus to sagara that goes on honnavar and gersoppa.
We met a conductor, his name was hegde,\. He was too good. We talked for around two and a half hour in the bus. Had a tasty misaL bhaji and gersoppa. Reached sagara by 7:45. and reached shimoga at 9:30. had dinner at some hotel, met kantha who lives there.

Took a bus back to bangalore at 11:00. reached bangalore at 5:30 in the morning.
Overall it was a good trek we enjoyed a lot even we were only three.

Level: easy to moderate

Thing to look for: leaches in the rainy season, snakes

Routes: there are two or three routes to reach kodachadri
a) karre ghat/kodachadri corss
b) via kattina hole throught jeeps. They charge 1500/-
c) via hidlu mane falls.
